Canada’s biggest cycling series announces event dates through 2020
Vancouver, BC – BC Superweek is set to welcome national and international professional cycling back to Metro Vancouver for the next four years.
“For more than 15 years, fans have come out to see the best pro cycling at BC Superweek and we’re excited that it will continue for the foreseeable future,” said Series Director Mark Ernsting. “Over the years at BC Superweek, fans have had the unique opportunity to watch the development of riders who have become marquee names on the world stage.”
The list of cycling stars who have raced at BC Superweek includes the likes of Tyler Farrar, Alex Steida, Brian Walton, Chris Horner, Davis Phinney, Svein Tuft, Ron Hayman, and Christian Meier on the men’s side, along with Alison Sydor, Leah Kirchmann, Shelley Olds, Tina Pic, Denise Ramsden, Ina Teutenberg, Leslie Tomlinson and Marianne Berglund on the women’s side.
BC Superweek is Canada’s biggest professional cycling series and features more than $125,000 in prize money available during eight races over ten days.
For 2017, the Tour de Delta kicks off the series by hosting three days of racing. It starts with the MK Delta Lands criterium in North Delta on the evening of Friday, July 7, a second criterium in the historic fishing village of Ladner on Saturday, July 8, and the White Spot | Delta UCI 1.2 Road Race on the morning of Sunday, July 9, in Tsawwassen.
Following the Tour de Delta, the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix, one of the most challenging and exhilarating cycling events in Canada, is Wednesday, July 12.
On the night of Thursday, July 13, it’s the Giro di Burnaby Presented by Appia Development, a criterium centered in the colourful Heights neighbourhood on Hastings Street.
The PoCo Grand Prix Presented by Dominion Lending Centres on Friday, July 14 is the newest addition to the BC Superweek series. The fast-paced criterium will see top cyclists speed through the downtown streets of Port Coquitlam.
BC Superweek comes to a conclusion with Steve Nash Fitness World and Sports Club presents the Tour de White Rock, a two-day points series race that includes a criterium on the evening of Saturday, July 15 and one of the more challenging road race courses in North America on the morning of Sunday, July 16.
With between 5,000 and 30,000 spectators in attendance at each event and more than $125,000 in cash prizes for participants, BC Superweek is the cycling event to attend each year.
Some of the most competitive teams in national and international cycling have already committed to attending the series this summer and all races are free to watch.
The scheduled dates for BC Superweek for the next four years is as follows:
2017: July 7-16
2018: July 6-15
2019: July 5-14
2020: July 10-19
